Choosing your Tablecloth

With so much choice, choosing the your tablecloth might appear a daunting task, here are a few guidelines.

SHAPE

We have tablecloths in Square, Oblong, Round and Oval designs.

Some tables have extra leaves and can expand to accomodate more people. A square table can become an oblong or a round table may be made oval. You can buy a cloth to fit the most frequently used layout or you may wish to consider buying two cloths to cover both configurations. Note: Our oval cloths are designed to fit an expanded round table - a 'racetrack' oval with straight sides and round ends.

SIZE

This worries many people, but it is easy. Your cloth will be the size of your table top plus the overhanging 'drop'. As the tablecloth drops both sides of a table we double the drop length - e.g. a 20cm drop will need 40cm of fabric.

The formula is: Table Top Size + (Drop x 2).

Step 1. Measure the table top

Measure your table top. (Tip: measure twice to avoid errors.)

For a square or round table you simply measure the width or diameter.

With an oblong or oval table measure the length and width.

Step 2. Choose your drop

We recommend a drop of 20cm-25cm - it is suitable for everyday use and by far the most popular choice.

A more formal look may be obtained with a larger 45cm drop - this looks lovely but may not be practical for day to day use and will require a wide width fabric.

Step 3. Add the two lengths

Take your table top measurement, add your drop x2. You now have your cloth size.

Choose the nearest match from our standard sizes or contact us if you would like a cloth made to a bespoke size.

Our standard fabrics are 140cm wide (137cm when hemmed). If you have a wider or large round table see our wide width fabrics.

COLOUR & PATTERN

This is the fun part. Your choice of fabric and colour can create different moods.

Plain or subtle patterned, light toned tablecloths are a good starting point and blend easily with any decor. Gingham and check designs are always popular and may be used for a more casual look. As shown above, dark colours produce a dramatic effect.

We have a large range of patterns and colours to cover all options and styles. Time to get creative!
